“A cowboy (man) rides (rode) into town on Friday. He stays two days (Three days) then leaves on Saturday (or Friday). How can this be possible?”
This allows for multiple interpretations:
1. The cowboy arrived on a horse named Friday, stayed two or three days and then left on a Saturday(or Friday in the other version of the riddle).
2. The cowboy arrived on a horse named Friday, stayed two or three days and left on a different horse named Saturday.
And it should be noted, it doesn’t have to be a horse. His car-truck-cow-dog-tractor… could have been named Friday and/or Saturday.
I’m going to have some fun with this one. The most obvious answers have already been taken but there are other possibilities:
- The town straddles the International date line. He arrives on Friday crossing in the western direction, stays two full days, and then crosses back over in the Eastern direction where the day changes from Sunday to Saturday.
- The “days” that are being referred to are Jupiter days which are only 10 hours long. Arrives early afternoon on Friday, stays two Jupiter days and leaves late morning on Saturday.
- Friday is a day. Saturday is a day. Those are two days. It didn’t specify they had to be two full days.
If he enters at 12:01 am on Friday and leaves at 11:59 pm on Saturday, he will have been in town for two days.
I’ve heard this riddle before. He came into town on Thursday, riding his horse named Friday. He left two days later, on Saturday, but on the same horse. His horse’s name was Friday. On the calendar he arrived on Thursday and left on Saturday. Two days later.
